a centre for community-driven response to health challenges
CCDR’s Kate Holliday has made the final 10 for the Aster Global Nursing Award. There were over 100,000 applications from nurses all over the world. We don’t know any nurse that doesn’t go above and beyond deserving recognition.
The award has a public voting component that forms part of the final decision and there is an award of USD250,000.
The way CCDR would use that funding is to implement an outreach program to engage retired nurses and/or nurses working in non-clinical settings to up-skill in Telehealth nursing. These are nurses that would otherwise not be providing clinical services and this provides them with an opportunity to maintain contact with patients and maintain their clinical practice, while building capacity in the health system and tapping into an otherwise underutilised resource.
The second would be to support a new initiative – a world federation for primary care and community nurses with the aim to leverage the position of primary and community care nurses to support social justice, equity and access to health care and adherence to treatments; health system strengthening in primary care led by the nursing profession; progress evidence-based practice through learning and collaborative research with a focus on capacity building; and support access to diagnostics and treatments, adherence, and uptake of existing public health initiatives and services.

NPON is positioned as a professional body for patient organisations and an accreditation body for patient organisation activities.
Some of the next activities we will be working on in each network are:
• Developing a scope of practice statement for patient organisations
•Identifying standard operating procedures for common activities
• Developing a code of conduct/Standards for patients organisations
In addition to registering your patient organisations, EOIs are open for Standing Committee members to guide this global health initiative.

Pathways is open to Patient Organisations wishing to have a Pathways specialist nurse in any country and any setting.
