The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research recognises that human research involves a wide range of activities that have varying degrees of risk. Research is ‘negligible risk’ where there is no foreseeable risk of harm or discomfort; and any foreseeable risk is not more than inconvenience. For research involving only the risk of discomfort or inconvenience (that is low risk or negligible risk), institutions may establish an alternative ethical review process. CCDR have resolved to proceed with such a process.
The CCDR Ethics Committee meets on an ad-hoc basis to support the rapid, ethical review of research projects.
